While browsing through photos from my vacation in Venice, I noticed a small section within a photo of the Basilica di San Marco that I believed would make a good painting.
I was inspired by the horses over the entryway, the flowing curves of the archways, and the repetition of circles in the window panes (which will be shown in the final painting).
The San Marco Horses painting is currently in the color sketch stage. The canvas has been divided into four panels where I am playing with various color mixtures before committing to the final oil painting. (The brighter colors are to come.)
Previously, I created the preparatory drawing below to work on the forms for the painting.
