Progress on the San Marco Horses painting continues.
This time I have the roughly painted white stonework to show you.
I chose to use contrasting whites for the foreground and background stonework. The back wall is a warm white that harmonizes with the background color. Therefore, it visually recedes. The foreground arch and column capitals are a cool white that contrasts with the background (although some of the warm underpainting still shows through). The contrast makes them visually pop forward.
The next time you check back to watch the painting’s progress, I plan to show you the painted horses.
